Green Goddess Detox Soup: The Skin-Resetting Soup Your Hormones Will Love

Green Goddess Detox Soup: The Skin-Resetting Soup Your Hormones Will Love

If you’ve ever felt like your skin flares up like clockwork, especially right before your period, you’re not imagining it. Your skin is deeply connected to your hormones, your gut, and your liver. And one of the simplest ways to support all three is through what you’re eating.

Enter: the Green Goddess Detox Soup — a cozy, nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory recipe designed to support clear skin, balanced hormones, and gut health from the inside out. It reminds me of a healthy version of a broccoli cheddar soup.

This isn’t just “a green soup.” It’s a functional beauty food.

Why This Soup Is So Powerful for Acne-Prone Skin

1. It Supports Your Liver (Which Controls Hormone Clearance)

Your liver’s job is to process and eliminate used hormones, especially estrogen. When that process slows down, hormones can recirculate in the body instead of being eliminated efficiently. This can disrupt the estrogen–progesterone balance and indirectly stimulate androgens — which increases oil production and inflammation in the skin.

This soup is rich in broccoli, spinach, parsley, and cilantro, which contain compounds that:

  • Support phase 1 & 2 liver detox
  • Help your body clear excess hormones
  • Reduce hormonal congestion that contributes to acne

When your liver is supported, your skin often follows.

2. It Calms Inflammation at a Cellular Level

Inflammation is the silent driver behind many skin concerns — including acne, redness, congestion, and premature aging.

This soup contains:

  • Turmeric + cumin +. black pepper help to reduce systemic inflammation
  • Avocado oil for anti-inflammatory fatty acids
  • Leafy greens rich in antioxidants

Lower inflammation = fewer painful breakouts and faster healing.

3. It Supports the Gut–Skin Connection

Your gut and your skin are in constant communication. If digestion is sluggish or imbalanced, it often shows up as:

  • Persistent breakouts
  • Sensitivity
  • Poor nutrient absorption

The fiber from zucchini, broccoli, and spinach feeds beneficial gut bacteria and supports regular elimination — which is essential for both detox and hormone balance.

4. It Delivers Skin-Building Nutrients

This soup is rich in:

  • Vitamin A → supports cell turnover
  • Vitamin C → collagen production + healing
  • Vitamin K + folate → circulation and repair
  • Magnesium + potassium → skin barrier support

With the added cottage cheese, collagen peptides, and nutritional yeast, you also get:

  • Clean protein for skin repair
  • Amino acids for collagen synthesis
  • B vitamins + zinc for acne support

It’s essentially a glow-boosting facial, in soup form.

Skin Reset Kitchen: Green Goddess Detox Soup

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp avocado oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 medium organic zucchinis, chopped (skin on for chlorophyll + fiber)
  • 1 cup organic broccoli florets
  • 2 cups organic spinach
  • 3 cups bone broth (i did beef bone broth)
  • 1 cup cottage cheese (skip if dairy sensitive)
  • ½ cup unflavored collagen peptides
  • 1 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • ¼–½ tsp sea salt, to taste
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ¼ tsp cumin
  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes and hemp seeds
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • Handful of fresh organic herbs (parsley & cilantro)

Directions

  1. Sauté the aromatics

Heat avocado oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and garlic sauté until soft and brown on the edges. Season with sea salt, black pepper, turmeric, cumin, and optional red pepper flakes. Sauté for 3–4 minutes until fragrant and softened.

  2. Add vegetables + broth

Stir in zucchini and broccoli, coating them in the seasoned mixture. Add broth and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook for 10–15 minutes until vegetables are tender.

  3. Add greens

Stir in spinach and fresh herbs until wilted, about 1–2 minutes. Remove from heat and let the soup cool slightly so it is hot but not boiling.

  4. Blend until smooth

Add cottage cheese directly into the pot. Use an immersion blender to blend until completely smooth and creamy (about 45–60 seconds).

  5. Finish with glow boosters

Stir in the collagen peptides, nutritional yeast, and lemon juice while the soup is warm. *if you add in your collagen while the mixture is too hot it will cook it off.

  6. Taste and adjust

Adjust salt, lemon, or olive oil as needed. Serve warm and drizzle olive oil, hemp seeds and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes if you want the spice. Dip in a nice piece of sourdough toast to indulge in this cozy soup.

Marissa's Note

Keep the zucchini skin on for added chlorophyll and fiber — it blends completely smooth. Blending the soup while warm ensures the cottage cheese becomes silky and undetectable in the final texture. Always use organic for your vegetables if you can to support happy healthy hormones, as pesticides are hormone disruptors.
